Skilled [Arabic] malware writers have found a way for less experienced [domestic] cyber criminals to do their work for them. A new freeware phishing kit being offered in hacker forums offers a way to set up fake Web sites and spam e-mails to capture users’ legitimate log-in credentials. However, the malware writers are able to siphon off a significant portion of entered login credentials, leaving only a few for the cyber criminals employing the phishing kit. This allows writers to capture the information without having to do the tedious work of setting up spam campaigns. |

I thought this was quite an interesting piece. It presents a very mature, polite or "civil" face to German disobedience. There is a lot that can be learned from this! -Rich A Google employee left his specially-modified black Opel with eight mounted cameras parked overnight in the northern city of Oldenburg, but returned to find the tires let down and the camera cables slashed, local police said. "The employee found a note under the windshield saying, ‘Please do not drive away, you have a puncture’," a police spokesman said, adding the saboteurs seemed concerned no harm should come to the driver of the vehicle. |

The use of Tabnapping, a recently-identified phishing technique, is on the rise, says Panda Labs. Tabnabbing exploits tabbed browser system in modern Web browsers such as Firefox and Internet Explorer, making users believe they are viewing a familiar Web page such as Gmail, Hotmail or Facebook. Cybercriminals can then steal the logins and passwords when users enter them on the hoax pages. According to Panda’s latest Quarterly Report on IT Threats, the technique is likely to be employed by more and more cybercriminals, and users should close all tabs they are not actively using. |

A misstep by McAfee security researchers apparently helped confuse the security research community about the hackers who targeted Google and many other major corporations in cyber attacks last year. On March 30, McAfee disclosed that its initial report on the attacks, which it branded Operation Aurora, had mistakenly linked several files to the attacks that had nothing to do with Aurora after all. Aurora is a sophisticated spying operation, set up to siphon intellectual property out of major corporations. It has been linked to attacks on Google, Intel, Symantec, Adobe, and other companies. |
