There are terrific circus acts packed into "Ovo," the new Cirque du Soleil confection that opened Friday outside AT&T Park for its U.S. premiere. Death-defying Butterflies, foot-juggling Ants, contortionist Spiders, high-bounding Crickets and other bountifully talented human insects keep saving a beautifully designed show from its mind-boggling misconception and ear-punishing music.

Keep your eyes on the Butterflies, Vladimir Hrynchenko's sinuous hand-balancing, Ryo Yabe's wondrous Diabolo routine, Li Wei's deft slackwire dancing or Svetlana Belova and Nantel's anatomy-defying contortions, though, and all is well. No, the egg story never pays off. But the flying Scarabs - a trapeze act without trapezes - is a feat of aerial acrobatics you won't soon forget.

BP Fined $87 Million PDF Print E-mail

BP (Beyond Petroleum laf!) has been fined a record $87m (£53m) for failing to correct safety hazards at its Texas City refinery in the U.S.

The $87m fine is the largest in OSHA’s history. An explosion in 2005 at the Texas plant killed 15 people and injured 180 more.

Star TrekThe film does everything correct for the genre. I can find no entertainment flaw with it -- From the casting to the pacing to the humor to the out of this world look and effects. It is exactly what a summer blockbuster and a Sci-Fi adventure should be. It has the charm to enchant casual visitors and old devotees alike.

BiohazardThe growing ineffectiveness of a popular and widely requested antibiotic has Chattanooga doctors emphasizing the importance of responsible antibiotic use. Chattanooga physicians say between one-half and two-thirds of the most-common bacteria — streptococcus pneumoniae — is showing resistance to azithromycin, the generic name for the antibiotic Zithromax. The antibiotic often is dispensed in a packet called the “Z-pak.”

The much anticipated IMGDC 2.0 has opened for attendee registration with the announcement of this year's pricing. IMGDC 2.0 will be $149, with a $50 discount to early registrations. The early bird rate of $99 will be available until November 15th, 2007. IMGDC 2.0 registration will be limited to 200 this year and lunch will be provided on both days of the conference, scheduled for March 29th - 30th, 2008 at the Minneapolis Convention Center in Minneapolis, MN.
